What to Expect, When? Parents Guide to Early Years Foundation Stage 2 – Reception

What to expect, when? Guidance to your child’s learning and development in the early years foundation stage

The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS. Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you as a parent know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.
In this guide, your child’s first five years have been divided up into six age bands which overlap. This is because every child is different and children do not grow and develop at the same rate. It highlights what you might notice your child doing at these point.

School Closure

We endeavour at all times to keep the school open for pupils.  However there are times when doing so may endanger the safety of pupils and/or staff; this may include – but is not limited to – bad weather or loss of power.  If this decision is made in advance of the school opening for the day, we will notify the Gloucestershire Emergency Response Team.  School closures notified in advance are advertised on the website https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/closures/ and on local radio stations.

In exceptional circumstances, this decision may be taken during the school day.  In which case, we will contact parents using our email service to advise them to collect their child/children as soon as possible.  All children will be supervised by school staff until they are collected by someone on the child’s approved collection list.  In these circumstances, we will also accept verbal permission to allow children to be collected by a different adult.

It is vital, therefore, that all emergency contact details are kept up to date and any changes notified to the school office as soon as possible.
